FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Love and Horror Productions is thrilled to announce that their award-winning freshman short, “Your Husband Was a Good Man,” will be available to stream via BloodstreamTV beginning May 1, following a successful festival run. “Your Husband Was a Good Man” is the debut directorial effort of Bystanders (2024) writer and star Jamie Alvey, further establishing her as an exciting voice in the world of genre cinema.
The screenplay earned many nominations and one win ahead of production when it debuted on the festival circuit during Fall 2023 to Spring 2024. The result short film has had its own fair share of accolades and selections during its festival run, including but not limited to screening as a part of Chattanooga Film Festival, winning Dunwich Horror Fest’s Best Horror Extended Short, winning Hollywood Just4Short’s Best Horror Short for the month of June 2025, winning Wallachia International Film Festival’s Best Horror Featurette, and winning 13horror.com’s Best Actress (Alvey) in a Short Film Contest.
The short follows Orla Cassidy (Alvey) as she navigates life post-partum and the first anniversary of her husband’s (Deaton Gabbard of Bystanders, Ganymede, and Earthquake Underground) untimely death in a school shooting. Orla resorts to ritualistic magic to bring her beloved back, but there are unintended bloody consequences because, after all, the price of resurrection is flesh.
Multi-hyphenate Alvey’s follow up to the critically acclaimed and subversively provocative indie feature Bystanders it is a far cry from the grindhouse revenge film. Reminiscent more of recent fare from indie horror powerhouses A24 and Neon, “Your Husband Was a Good Man” is somber and, at times, bleak yet no less impactful in its messaging. Brian Finnerty of Macabre Daily wrote in an Instagram post praising the short, “…a refreshingly grounded take on the ‘back from the dead’ trope. Bringing realism and relatable characters to the story. It will resonate powerfully with any parents who understand what it’s like to make selfish (but all too human) choices to take care of themselves and their family.” Editor of Macabre Daily Matthew Orozco and Film Carnage’s Rebecca Cherry both praise the film’s somber humanity and emotional resonance in their respective reviews, while Brandon Peters of the Brandon Peters Show likens the short to Mike Flanagan’s debut Absentia (2011).

The short marks a joyful collaborative reunion for Bystanders cast and crew members Alvey, Gabbard, Callie Kirk, and Bino Bannan. Kirk serves as an executive producer and hair and makeup artist while Bannan takes the reins as cinematographer and colorist. In addition to the past Bystanders cohort, the film adds the likes of Petra Mulligan, a graduate of Tom Savini’s Makeup Effects School and SFX supervisor of the film Entropy (2022) and Lindsey Kibler, known for her work on The Jester 2 (2025) and The Mortuary Assistant (2026), to the mix.
Meanwhile, Love and Horror’s second short, “The Second Circle,” is currently in post-production and is expected to debut on the festival circuit this year. “The Second Circle,” which sees Alvey pull triple duty once more, is inspired by “Canto V” of Dante’s Inferno and Alvey’s own experiences as a woman on the autism spectrum. The short also stars Cedric Gegel of He Sees You When You’re Sleeping (2024) and The Haunted Forest (2025) and Douglas Dean Mitchell of Shadow Tag (2025) and Bruton (TBA). Several collaborators from “Your Husband Was a Good Man” return behind the scenes, including Mulligan, Kirk, and Gabbard.
